It is the season of grace, a period when one ordinarily takes respite from his labors to join the festivities of the christian world and for a time to forget the trials and tribulations that daily he faces in his struggle to live.
In the same period last year, we had voiced out grim forebodings for this year which is about to end. The unabated criminality in the streets, the spread of terrorism, the continuing slide of the economy, the graft and corruption even in high places in the government have all vindicated our prognostications which, in truth, are not hard to come by since they are a daily fare in the papers.
We have again come to a point where we have to assess once more what the coming new year could have a store for us. Given the same set of leaders with unchanged ways, there seems to be nothing at all to look forward to. In fact, where people were worried and despodent before, the general impression now, as borne out of recent surveys, is that people are fairly expecting the roof to fall upon them.
But we do not realy want to belabor these issues. We know we have to live with these thorns in our sides and continue in hoping and working for the best of what is present and what would come.
And so, in the spirit of universal Christian brotherhood, we greet our readers with heartfelt wishes for a MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR!
