MANILA, Philippines – A businessman who was driving his two children to school was shot and killed on board his Pajero by a man on board a motorcycle along Palanza St., near the boundary of Manila and Quezon City, Wednesday morning.
Supt. Carlito Feliciano, commander of the Quezon City Police District Galas Station, identified the victim as Carmelo Llado, 40, of Doña Maria Street in Sampaloc, Manila.
Feliciano said the victim, who was in the trucking business, was shot at close range by the lone gunman despite being wounded after a brief chase.
Investigators said the suspect on board an XRM Honda motorcycle was wearing a helmet when he blocked the victims’ vehicle along Roces Sreet at around 6:30 a.m. and took a shot at the vehicle as he signalled Llado to stop.
But Llado instead drove off. The gunman gave chase and again shot Llado when he caught up with him on Palanza Street. Police said Llado’s two children were unhurt.
Witnesses brought Llado to East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Hospital where he died due to four gunshot wounds in different parts of the body.
The motive of the ambush, police said, is yet to be determined.
